ROME
ARTS 103 Havemeyer Street Brooklyn,
NY 11211 718-388-2009 Rome Arts is pleased to present Untitled (Cherries), 2002, an installation by Andrea Corson. The song, "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries" is the inspiration behind this work. The song defines life as a luxury and to be lived worry-free. The message is to enjoy life, as you would enjoy strong, juicy, fleshy cherries. Corson has sculpted approximately 5,800 cherries individually from Premo Sculpey. Part of the process is to bake the polymer clay cherries on a cookie tray in her oven at home. Corson uses basic ready-made (pre-existing) materials and transforms them into icons of our society. Corsonšs patience and commitment to meticulously making thousands of cherries exemplifies her determination to create a beautiful and ideal world. The bed functions as a physical and emotional platform. The cherries, in conjunction with the bed and sub-flooring, create a haven for discovery and self-reflection. Untitled (Cherries) is a visually compelling symbolic landscape that is multitudinous, seductive, complex, and contemplative. |
